Mama is a 2013 Spanish-Canadian horror film directed by Andres Muschietti starring Jessica Chastain.
A man named Jeffrey kills several of his business partners and his estranged ex-wife, then flees with his children: young Victoria and baby Lilly. The children's rich aunt is angry that she did not obtain custody. Mama's corpse falls into the lake but the baby's corpse becomes stuck to the branch and is recovered by authorities. This forces Annabel, who didn't want the children, to take care of them. Over time, Annabel becomes attached to the children, and Victoria begins to prefer her over Mama, but Lilly still remains completely loyal to Mama. A series of strange events makes Annabel believe that Mama may indeed be real. Victoria worries for Annabel's safety, saying Mama gets very jealous.
After seeing Mama during a session with Victoria, Dr. Dreyfuss goes to the cabin in the woods to verify that Mama's ghost lives there and is killed by Mama. Mama becomes angry due to Victoria's neglect of her and attacks. Victoria tries to defend Annabel and pleads for Mama to stop, but Lilly is still clearly loyal to Mama. Mama uses this body to take the children to the cabin.
Annabel sees the cliff that Mama had originally jumped from; she realizes Mama's intentions to jump off the cliff with the children. Lucas and Annabel arrive in time to stop the children from jumping, but Mama attacks them. Lilly calls out for Mama. Mama regains her twisted appearance and attacks again, knocking out Lucas. Once at the edge of the cliff, Victoria tries to convince Lilly not to go, and Lilly cries that Lilly, Victoria, and Mama should all be together.
