According to statistics, the divorce rate among couples over 50 has doubled in the last decades. It is estimated that 25% of divorced people in the United States, are elderly and could live their old age and unmarried.

Why couples split after so many years together? Dr. Campos says that the first factor is that people at 50 do not feel old: "It's not like before women at this stage of his life he was finished." And third, no less important, is that women are more financially independent than in previous decades.

While greater numbers of women who seeks divorce after 50, also remains common withstand them little comfortable relationships out of fear or lack of economic strength.
