Selena Gomez has had quite a few health scares over the years, most famously winding up in the hospital as a result of exhaustion and malnutrition in 2011. But Selena in the emergency room again? What happened to the former (or current?!) girlfriend of X Factor star Justin Bieber?


A number of Selena Gomez fans found themselves frantically worrying after photos of the Wizards of Waverly Place star leaving the hospital emerged. Some fans feared that Selena had once again worked too hard and wound up in the emergency room as a result.

We’re happy to report that none of the above rumors are true. Well, okay, Selena Gomez did visit the emergency room, but not for the reason you might think. A source told E! that Selena had decided to test for strep throat after a long recording session during which “her throat was bothering her”. It was a better safe than sorry sort of thing, because her “stepfather has had bronchitis so she wanted to be extra careful to make sure she wasn’t getting it, too.”

It’s definitely good to get tested for strep, but we’re surprised that Selena went straight to the emergency room. Mere mortals such as ourselves stop by the doctor’s office first. But hey, if you can afford to pay the hefty ER bill, why not?

Emergency room visits aside, we think Selena will want to rest up today. She stayed out late last night after the American Music Awards ended, celebrating with supposed ex Justin Bieber. It appears the two are back together for now, because they were spotted holding hands backstage and then again later at an after party. Aww, how sweet. Just wait, there’s more drama around the corner.
